SURAH 77: AL-MURSALAT (THE EMISSARIES)

1 وَالْمُرْسَلَاتِ عُرْفًا By the (Winds) sent forth one after another (to man's profit). I swear by the emissary winds, sent one after another (for men's benefit). By the emissary winds, (sent) one after another
2 فَالْعَاصِفَاتِ عَصْفًا Which then blow violently in tempestuous Gusts. By the raging hurricanes. By the raging hurricanes.
3 وَالنَّاشِرَاتِ نَشْرًا And scatter (things) far and wide. Which scatter clouds to their destined places. By those which cause earth's vegetation to revive.
4 فَالْفَارِقَاتِ فَرْقًا Then separate them, one from another. Then separate them one from another. By those who winnow with a winnowing.
5 فَالْمُلْقِيَاتِ ذِكْرًا Then spread abroad a Message. Then I swear by the angels who bring down the revelation. By those who bring down the Reminder.
6 عُذْرًا أَوْ نُذْرًا Whether of Justification or of Warning;. To clear or to warn. To excuse or to warn.
7 إِنَّمَا تُوعَدُونَ لَوَاقِعٌ Assuredly, what ye are promised must come to pass. Most surely what you are threatened with must come to pass. Surely that which ye are promised will befall.
8 فَإِذَا النُّجُومُ طُمِسَتْ Then when the stars become dim. So when the stars are made to lose their light. So when the stars are put out.
9 وَإِذَا السَّمَاءُ فُرِجَتْ When the heaven is cleft asunder. And when the heaven is rent asunder. And when the sky is riven asunder.
10 وَإِذَا الْجِبَالُ نُسِفَتْ When the mountains are scattered (to the winds) as dust. And when the mountains are carried away as dust. And when the mountains are blown away.
11 وَإِذَا الرُّسُلُ أُقِّتَتْ And when the messengers are (all) appointed a time (to collect);. And when the messengers are gathered at their appointed time And when the messengers are brought unto their time appointed.
12 لِأَيِّ يَوْمٍ أُجِّلَتْ For what Day are these (portents) deferred? To what day is the doom fixed? For what day is the time appointed?
13 لِيَوْمِ الْفَصْلِ For the Day of Sorting out. To the day of decision. For the Day of Decision.
14 وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا يَوْمُ الْفَصْلِ And what will explain to thee what is the Day of Sorting out? And what will make you comprehend what the day of decision is? And what will convey unto thee what the Day of Decision is!.
15 وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth! Woe on that day to the rejecters. Woe unto the repudiators on that day!
16 أَلَمْ نُهْلِكِ الْأَوَّلِينَ Did We not destroy the men of old (for their evil)? Did We not destroy the former generations? Destroyed We not the former folk.
17 ثُمَّ نُتْبِعُهُمُ الْآخِرِينَ So shall We make later (generations) follow them. Then did We follow them up with later ones. Then caused the latter folk to follow after?
18 كَذَلِكَ نَفْعَلُ بِالْمُجْرِمِينَ Thus do We deal with men of sin. Even thus shall We deal with the guilty. Thus deal We ever with the guilty.
19 وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth! Woe on that day to the rejecters. Woe unto the repudiators on that day!
20 أَلَمْ نَخْلُقْكُمْ مِنْ مَاءٍ مَهِينٍ Have We not created you from a fluid (held) despicable?. Did We not create you from contemptible water? Did We not create you from a base fluid
21 فَجَعَلْنَاهُ فِي قَرَارٍ مَكِينٍ The which We placed in a place of rest, firmly fixed. Then We placed it in a secure resting-place. Which We laid up in a safe abode
22 إِلَى قَدَرٍ مَعْلُومٍ For a period (of gestation), determined (according to need)? Till an appointed term. For a known term?
23 فَقَدَرْنَا فَنِعْمَ الْقَادِرُونَ For We do determine (according to need); for We are the best to determine (things). So We proportion it-- how well are We at proportioning (things). Thus We arranged. How excellent is Our arranging!
24 وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ Ah woe, that Day! to the Rejecters of Truth! Woe on that day to the rejecters. Woe unto the repudiators on that day!
25 أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ الْأَرْضَ كِفَاتًا Have We not made the earth (as a place) to draw together. Have We not made the earth to draw together to itself. Have We not made the earth a receptacle
26 أَحْيَاءً ‎وَأَمْوَاتًا The living and the dead. The living and the dead. Both for the living and the dead.
27 وَجَعَلْنَا فِيهَا رَوَاسِيَ شَامِخَاتٍ وَأَسْقَيْنَاكُمْ مَاءً فُرَاتًا And made therein mountains standing firm, lofty (in stature); and provided for you water sweet (and wholesome)? And made therein lofty mountains, and given you to drink of sweet water? And placed therein high mountains and given you to drink sweet water therein?
28 وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth! Woe on that day to the rejecters. Woe unto the repudiators on that day!
29 انْطَلِقُوا إِلَى مَا كُنْتُمْ بِهِ تُكَذِّبُونَ (It will be said:) "Depart ye to that which ye used to reject as false! Walk on to that which you called a lie. (It will be said unto them:) Depart unto that (doom) which ye used to deny.
30 انْطَلِقُوا إِلَى ظِلٍّ ذِي ثَلَاثِ شُعَبٍ "Depart ye to a Shadow (of smoke ascending) in three columns. Walk on to the covering having three branches. Depart unto the shadow falling threefold.
31 لَا ظَلِيلٍ وَلَا يُغْنِي مِنَ اللَّهَبِ "(Which yields) no shade of coolness, and is of no use against the fierce Blaze. Neither having the coolness of the shade nor availing against the flame. (Which yet is) no relief nor shelter from the flame.
32 إِنَّهَا تَرْمِي بِشَرَرٍ كَالْقَصْرِ "Indeed it throws about sparks (huge) as Forts. Surely it sends up sparks like palaces. Lo! it throweth up sparks like the castles.
33 كَأَنَّهُ جِمَالَةٌ صُفْرٌ "As if there were (a string of) yellow camels (marching swiftly)." As if they were tawny camels. (Or) as it might be camels of bright yellow hue.
34 وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth! Woe on that day to the rejecters. Woe unto the repudiators on that day!
35 هَذَا يَوْمُ لَا يَنْطِقُونَ That will be a Day when they shall not be able to speak. This is the day on which they shall not speak. This is a day wherein they speak not.
36 وَلَا يُؤْذَنُ لَهُمْ فَيَعْتَذِرُونَ Nor will it be open to them to put forth pleas. And permission shall not be given to them so that they should offer excuses. Nor are they suffered to put forth excuses.
37 وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth! Woe on that day to the rejecters. Woe unto the repudiators on that day!
38 هَذَا يَوْمُ الْفَصْلِ جَمَعْنَاكُمْ وَالْأَوَّلِينَ That will be a Day of Sorting out! We shall gather you together and those before (you)! This is the day of decision: We have gathered you and those of yore. This is the Day of Decision, We have brought you and the men of old together.
39 فَإِنْ كَانَ لَكُمْ كَيْدٌ فَكِيدُونِ Now, if ye have a trick (or plot), use it against Me! So if you have a plan, plan against Me (now). If now ye have any wit, outwit Me.
40 وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth! Woe on that day to the rejecters. Woe unto the repudiators on that day!
41 إِنَّ الْمُتَّقِينَ فِي ظِلَالٍ وَعُيُونٍ As to the Righteous, they shall be amidst (cool) shades and springs (of water). Surely those who guard (against evil) shall be amid shades and fountains. Lo! those who kept their duty are amid shade and fountains.
42 وَفَوَاكِهَ مِمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ And (they shall have) fruits,- all they desire. And fruits such as they desire. And fruits such as they desire.
43 كُلُوا وَاشْرَبُوا هَنِيئًا بِمَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ "Eat ye and drink ye to your heart's content: for that ye worked (Righteousness). Eat and drink pleasantly because of what you did. (Unto them it is said:) Eat, drink and welcome, O ye blessed, in return for what ye did.
44 إِنَّا كَذَلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِنِينَ Thus do We certainly reward the Doers of Good. Surely thus do We reward the doers of good. Thus do We reward the good.
45 وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth! Woe on that day to the rejecters. Woe unto the repudiators on that day!
46 كُلُوا وَتَمَتَّعُوا قَلِيلًا إِنَّكُمْ مُجْرِمُونَ (O ye unjust!) Eat ye and enjoy yourselves (but) a little while, for that ye are Sinners. Eat and enjoy yourselves for a little; surely you are guilty. Eat and take your ease (on earth) a little. Lo! ye are guilty.
47 وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth! Woe on that day to the rejecters. Woe unto the repudiators on that day!
48 وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ ارْكَعُوا لَا يَرْكَعُونَ And when it is said to them, "Prostrate yourselves!" they do not so. And where it is said to them: Bow down, they do not bow down. When it is said unto them: Bow down, they bow not down!
49 وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth! Woe on that day to the rejecters. Woe unto the repudiators on that day!
50 فَبِأَيِّ حَدِيثٍ بَعْدَهُ يُؤْمِنُونَ Then what Message, after that, will they believe in? In what announcement, then, after it, will they believe? In what statement, after this, will they believe?
