| 3 | وَالسَّابِحَاتِ سَبْحًا | And by those who glide along (on errands of mercy). | And by those who float in space. | By the lone stars floating. |
| 4 | فَالسَّابِقَاتِ سَبْقًا | Then press forward as in a race. | Then those who are foremost going ahead. | By the angels hastening. |
| 5 | فَالْمُدَبِّرَاتِ أَمْرًا | Then arrange to do (the Commands of their Lord). | Then those who regulate the affair. | And those who govern the event. |
| 6 | يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ الرَّاجِفَةُ | One Day everything that can be in commotion will be in violent commotion. | The day on which the quaking one shall quake. | On the day when the first trump resoundeth. |
| 7 | تَتْبَعُهَا الرَّادِفَةُ | Followed by oft-repeated (commotions). | What must happen afterwards shall follow it. | And the second followeth it. |
| 8 | قُلُوبٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَاجِفَةٌ | Hearts that Day will be in agitation. | Hearts on that day shall palpitate. | On that day hearts beat painfully |
| 9 | أَبْصَارُهَا خَاشِعَةٌ | Cast down will be (their owners') eyes. | Their eyes cast down. | While eyes are downcast |
| 11 | أَئِذَا كُنَّا عِظَامًا نَخِرَةً | "What! - when we shall have become rotten bones?" | What! when we are rotten bones? | Even after we are crumbled bones? |
| 13 | فَإِنَّمَا هِيَ زَجْرَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ | But verily, it will be but a single (Compelling) Cry. | But it shall be only a single cry. | Surely it will need but one shout. |
| 14 | فَإِذَا هُمْ بِالسَّاهِرَةِ | When, behold, they will be in the (full) awakening (to Judgment). | When lo! they shall be wakeful. | And lo! they will be awakened. |
| 15 | هَلْ أتَاكَ حَدِيثُ مُوسَى | Has the story of Moses reached thee? | Has not there come to you the story of Musa? | Hath there come unto thee the history of Moses? |
| 20 | فَأَرَاهُ الْآيَةَ الْكُبْرَى | Then did (Moses) show him the Great Sign. | So he showed him the mighty sign. | And he showed him the tremendous token. |
| 21 | فَكَذَّبَ وَعَصَى | But (Pharaoh) rejected it and disobeyed (guidance). | But he rejected (the truth) and disobeyed. | But he denied and disobeyed. |
| 22 | ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ يَسْعَى | Further, he turned his back, striving hard (against Allah). | Then he went back hastily. | Then turned he away in haste. |
| 23 | فَحَشَرَ فَنَادَى | Then he collected (his men) and made a proclamation. | Then he gathered (men) and called out. | Then gathered he and summoned |
| 24 | فَقَالَ أَنَا رَبُّكُمُ الْأَعْلَى | Saying, "I am your Lord, Most High". | Then he said: I am your lord, the most high. | And proclaimed: "I (Pharaoh) am your Lord the Highest." |
| 30 | وَالْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ دَحَاهَا | And the earth, moreover, hath He extended (to a wide expanse). | And the earth, He expanded it after that. | And after that He spread the earth. |
| 32 | وَالْجِبَالَ أَرْسَاهَا | And the mountains hath He firmly fixed;. | And the mountains, He made them firm. | And He made fast the hills. |
| 33 | مَتَاعًا لَكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَامِكُمْ | For use and convenience to you and your cattle. | A provision for you and for your cattle. | A provision for you and for your cattle. |
| 34 | فَإِذَا جَاءَتِ الطَّامَّةُ الْكُبْرَى | Therefore, when there comes the great, overwhelming (Event). | But when the great predominating calamity comes. | But when the great disaster cometh. |
| 37 | فَأَمَّا مَنْ طَغَى | Then, for such as had transgressed all bounds. | Then as for him who is inordinate. | Then, as for him who rebelled |
| 38 | وَءَاثَرَ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا | And had preferred the life of this world. | And prefers the life of this world. | And chose the life of the world. |
| 39 | فَإِنَّ الْجَحِيمَ هِيَ الْمَأْوَى | The Abode will be Hell-Fire. | Then surely the hell, that is the abode. | Lo! hell will be his home. |
| 41 | فَإِنَّ الْجَنَّةَ هِيَ الْمَأْوَى | Their abode will be the Garden. | Then surely the garden-- that is the abode. | Lo! the Garden will be his home. |
| 43 | فِيمَ أَنْتَ مِنْ ذِكْرَاهَا | Wherein art thou (concerned) with the declaration thereof? | About what! You are one to remind of it. | Why (ask they)? What hast thou to tell thereof? |
| 44 | إِلَى رَبِّكَ مُنْتَهَاهَا | With thy Lord in the Limit fixed therefor. | To your Lord is the goal of it. | Unto thy Lord belongeth (knowledge of) the term thereof. |
| 45 | إِنَّمَا أَنْتَ مُنْذِرُ مَنْ يَخْشَاهَا | Thou art but a Warner for such as fear it. | You are only a warner to him who would fear it. | Thou art but a warner unto him who feareth it. |
