1 أَلَمْ نَشْرَحْ لَكَ صَدْرَكَ Have We not expanded thee thy breast?. Have We not expanded for you your breast. Have We not caused thy bosom to dilate.
2 وَوَضَعْنَا عَنْكَ وِزْرَكَ And removed from thee thy burden And taken off from you your burden. And eased thee of the burden
3 الَّذِي أَنْقَضَ ظَهْرَكَ The which did gall thy back?. Which pressed heavily upon your back. Which weighed down thy back.
4 وَرَفَعْنَا لَكَ ذِكْرَكَ And raised high the esteem (in which) thou (art held)? And exalted for you your esteem? And exalted thy fame?
5 فَإِنَّ مَعَ الْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا So, verily, with every difficulty, there is relief. Surely with difficulty is ease. But lo! with hardship goeth ease.
6 إِنَّ مَعَ الْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا Verily, with every difficulty there is relief. With difficulty is surely ease. Lo! with hardship goeth ease.
7 فَإِذَا فَرَغْتَ فَانْصَبْ Therefore, when thou art free (from thine immediate task), still labour hard. So when you are free, nominate. So when thou art relieved, still toil
8 وَإِلَى رَبِّكَ فَارْغَبْ And to thy Lord turn (all) thy attention. And make your Lord your exclusive object. And strive to please thy Lord.
